Learn how to draw hands with this multi-part tutorial. To start with, make a fist with your right hand and observe it while doing the steps in this tutorial. This will make a big difference in your drawing. First, draw a tilted rectangle. Draw lightly, as you will only use this as a guide and will be erasing it later. The top and bottom of your rectangle should be twice the length of the sides.
Now draw a guideline for the peak of the knuckle of the middle finger. This should be 1/3 the height of a side of the rectangle. Make sure your proportions are correct, as this is key.
Make a trapezoid shape representing the thumb. The top and bottom of the shape should be parallel.
Make the divisions for the fingers. Remember to slant the lines slightly, and take care to make the index and middle fingers wider than the other 2. Start the divisions at the bottom and don't draw them all the way to the top.
Draw guides for the bottom of the palm near the wrist, and the folded skin on the outside of the palm near the pinky.
Human fingers aren't square. Round out the fingers and knuckles to make them look better. This is where you begin drawing with a darker line.
Erase the lighter lines from the underdrawing, and you're almost done!
Now just finish up by adding a thumbnail, wrinkles on the knuckles, and shading.
