How To Draw A Head
This tutorial will teach you how to draw a head.
Look at the front view first. It helps to simplify the measurements so they can be committed to memory. We can divide the head into thirds vertically and fifths horizontally. Notice that the distance from 1) the hair line to the brow ridge, 2) the brow ridge to the nose line, and 3) the nose line to the chin are the same. Now look at our horizontal measurements. The fifth in the middle is the nose, which is the same width as the eyes on either side. The ears are half the width of the eyes, and line up with the top of the eyes and bottom of the nose. a) shows a vertical line down from the center of the eye helps us find the edge of the mouth. b) A line from the center of the lips to the outer corner of the eye gives us the wing of the nose. c) A vertical line down from the inside corner of the eye gives us the wing of the nose.
If we look at the side view, we see that the head basically fits into a square. Divide this square in half horizontally and vertically. The ear lines up with the back of the vertical line slightly tilted back. The vertical measurements are the same. The middle horizontal line helps us place the eye, and also gives us the point where the neck connects to the head.
